Valentine's Day Craft!!

Students worked on a Valentine's Day card by threading yarn into a heart shape at the front of the card stock paper and wrote a message on the inside!

100th Day!

HOUSE GAME!

 PANCAKE EATING CONTEST! (600+ pancakes for the school)

Language

Students wrote about what they think their life will be like when their 100 years old. Are they retired? Do they have a family? Do they have grand kids? Where are they living? Who lives with them? When they had extra time they created a self-portrait of themselves.

We also read Chapter 2 of Door in the Wall.

Math

Students worked on hundred board word problems that involve multiplication, money and measurement facts. Students worked in groups to figure out what the answer was for each problem.

UOI

Students worked on the good copy of their wanted poster. It had to be neat, colourful, proper grammar and punctuation, and the necessary information (who, what, where, why, when).

- Spirit Day tomorrow! Wear red, pink, or white!
- All after care invoices for January have been sent out.  Starting this month the amount per minute has changed to 13 cents per minute to reflect the increase in minimum wage. After care is due on February 26th. 
- Valentine's Day Bake Sale tomorrow!

Novel: "Door in the Wall"

Language

Learning goal: Students will learn about words with "ie" and "ei" (Lesson 20)

Students read the story and the TIP of the lesson. We looked at examples in the story and students wrote their words in the agenda. Students will complete Lesson 20 for homework.

Students were also introduced to their new novel "Door in the Wall". We discussed how it was set it in the time of the Bubonic Plague, also known as "Black Death". We read Chapter 1 as a class.

Math

Learning goal: Students will learn to name and sort polygons by sides.

We looked at examples on pg. 80 and 81 and students worked on pg. 82 questions 2, 3, and 4.

Students learned about polygons, triangles, and the correct names for each polygon and triangle.

UOI

Learning goal: Students will learn to create a wanted poster.

We discussed what a wanted poster should entail and looked at an example. Students will create a rough copy today and a good copy tomorrow.

Oral Competition !

What an exciting day of oral competitions! So proud of everyone who presented. Congratulations to Joshua for winning 3rd place overall and for Vanshi's hard work today! 

Be sure to attend our St. Jude's and Maples competition on Thursday, February 15! Looking forward to seeing everyone there.

Knights, Defenses, Weapons, and Artillery

Happy Birthday to Aanika!

Language/UOI

Learning goal: Students will learn about becoming a knight, defenses, weapons, and artillery.

Students read an information sheet on the stages of a boy becoming a knight and answered comprehension questions. Then they watched a video of a knighting ceremony! The stages of becoming a knight are: page, valet, squire, and knight. 

Students also watched a video on weapons and artillery while filling in the blanks of a sheet. Students looked at a diagram of the different names and parts of an armor and watched a video that explains in detail how a squire helps a knight put on their armor and the name of the parts.

Lastly, students created their own catapult using popsicle sticks and rubber bands!
