Constructing Triangles

Language/UOI

Learning goal: Students will learn about vowel pairs "ai", "ay" and diphthongs "oi" and "oy".

We read the story and TIP for lesson 22 and discussed examples from the story. Students wrote their spelling words in their agendas and started to work on lesson 22 activities in class.

We read chapter 7 of Door in the Wall and students had to design a shop sign or banner that doesn't use words or letters. Guilds had banners with emblems showing tools of the trade. Most people couldn't read or write, so signs had to deliver a message without using words (examples of shops: Barber shop, shoemaker, pharmacy, baker, blacksmith, carpenter, etc.)

Homework: Complete lesson 22. Spelling test signed and corrected. Complete banner if not completed in class. Bring UOI research tomorrow.

Math

Learning goal: Students will learn how to construct triangles.

We looked at examples on pg. 94 and 95. Students worked on pg. 96 and 97 questions 1, 3, and 4. Students will continue today's lesson tomorrow as well to get some extra practice.

To begin, students had to draw an estimate of what the triangle would look like by labelling each angle and the measurements of the lines. After, to create an accurate representation of the angles and measurements, students had to use a ruler and protractor to create the exact angles and measurements that is given in the question. Students needed to read the question carefully and double check their work to ensure the measurements were correct.
