Length of an object

Reading Buddies!

Language

We used our language period today to work on our science fair project. Students completed the research paragraph (changed to "Why you're interested in creating this experiment), hypothesis, and learned to identify the independent, dependent, and controlled variable.

Math

Learning goal: Students will describe the length of an object in different units.

We looked at examples on pg. 311 and 312 in the textbook and how we convert mm, cm, dm, and m to see the relationships among the units we use to measure length.

Example: A troll is 9 cm tall.

1) Since 1 cm=10 mm, then 9 cm is 90 mm. The troll is 90 mm tall.
2) Since 1 cm= 0.1 dm, then 9 cm is 0.9 dm. The troll is 0.9 dm tall.
3) Since 1 cm= 0.01 m, then 9 cm is 0.09 m. The troll is 0.09 m tall.

Homework: Math Sheet

UOI

Students worked on the summative project to draw a diagram with labels and an explanation of their first idea to create a light or sound signal.
